  • Teachers, parents and children are familiar with the USDA Food Guide Pyramid which is discussed in the next section.
  • This Children's Activity Pyramid builds on this same concept by providing these examples of age-appropriate types of activities that children need to perform daily, 3-5 times a week; 2-3 times a week; and "cut-down-on" sedentary activities.
  • The second part of this Activity Pyramid provides children with a blank pyramid for them to select and record "activities you think of to have more fun."
Link with Health Curriculum
  • Visit teachers during an in-service or a faculty meeting.
  • Give the facts on health issues associated with overweight, inactive children provided in the above sections.
  • Give them the link to this Web site, Children's Activity Pyramid.
  • Ask teachers to have children complete this activity.
  • Display pictures of each child's personalized Activity Pyramid in the school cafeteria.
